Food Share programs Good Food Box & Hot Meal were introduced as responses to the urgent need for healthy food access during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Since then, LUSH Valley has been serving and delivering hundreds of Hot Meals and Good Food Boxes across the Comox Valley each week to individuals and households experiencing food insecurity.

The Hot Meal program delivers fresh, nutritious meals to the doorsteps of isolated individuals across the Comox Valley through our Community Partner organizations. Partners for the Hot Meal program include:

  • Community Cares Peer Outreach
  • Comox Valley Affordable Housing Society
  • Comox Valley Head Injury Society
  • Comox Valley Senior Support Society
  • Comox Valley Transition Society — Connect Warming Centre
  • Hornby & Denman Community Health Care — Better at Home
  • K’ómoks First Nation

“I’m severely disabled and isolated and when I had troubles accessing food, this was a great help! It wasn’t just the food – it was knowing that people cared and the human connection of truly kind people. Many thanks to everyone at Lush Valley!” — Hot Meal program client

The Good Food Box is a grocery bag of fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs, available every week. Boxes contain a balanced variety of kitchen staples and local favourites, with 50% to 100% of ingredients sourced from Comox Valley farmers & growers.

There are 3 streams of the Good Food Box program:

  • The Community Good Food Box
    Available to everyone
  • The Subsidized Good Food Box
Available to households experiencing financial barriers to healthy eating
  • The No-Cost Good Food Box
