The Comox Valley and Strathcona-Sunrise Rotary Clubs have teamed up to support food security with the ‘Everyone Eats’ online raffle.
In a time when non-profit organizations are working extra hard to meet the needs in our community, it is gratifying to know that others are taking notice and want to help.
“This Pandemic has made it clear that food security is a real issue in the Comox Valley, and we wanted to do something to support it,” explains Myrna Logan, a member of the Comox Valley Rotary Club. “Together with members of the Strathcona-Sunrise Rotary Club, we explored who was providing food to those in need. LUSH Valley Food Action Society and the Food Bank came up as leaders in this area. We also thought about local food producers and businesses and how we could also support them.
“After some brainstorming on ZOOM, we came up with the idea for the ‘Everyone Eats’ online raffle,” adds Logan. “We feel like it is a good circle of support. Food producers and restaurants benefit because we purchased the prizes, and didn’t just ask for donations. LUSH Valley and the Food Bank will benefit from the potential of about $17,000 to share … if the raffle is a sell-out! We hope that it turns into an annual fundraiser for us. We are really excited, and our Rotary clubs are aiming for a sell-out to make it happen! “
