Food Share Call for Volunteers

LUSH Valley is in need of volunteers to support our new Food Share program. Opportunities are available to support our Good Food Box hamper assembly and delivery, admin and call centre, as well as a Chef’s Assistant for our Hot Meal program. (See the job descriptions below.) Protocols are in place to ensure social distancing is possible.

Good Food Box Administration Volunteers
Want to know more about Admin volunteers? Email Lynnette FoodShare@LUSHValley.org

Tasks:
– Monitor our email inbox (from the comfort of your home) for emails confirming recipient registration and delivery details.
– Navigate our system of multiple Google spreadsheets to make the required updates.

Required abilities and infrastructure:
– Access to your own computer and Internet required.
– Google account for signing into Google sheets is preferable, but not necessarily required.
– Volunteers should have some experience with Google sheets and be quite comfortable with spreadsheets including using search functions, basic formulas and working from multiple tabs/windows.
– Attention to detail is a must.
– Willing to maintain client confidentiality and sign a LUSH Valley confidentiality agreement.
– Able to complete other LUSH Valley volunteer documentation including a liability waiver and criminal record check as we are dealing with personal communications with vulnerable individuals and families.

Required time commitment:
– 1-2 hour video conference for a training session.
Minimum of 2 X two-hour shifts per week.  The shifts are scheduled as either morning (before 11 a.m.), afternoon (1-4 p.m.) or evening (7 p.m. or later), on Monday through Fridays. You can do 2 shifts the same day, or spread them all out onto multiple days, as scheduling availability permits. We are asking for at least a one-month commitment due to the time required for training and supporting a volunteer in this role.

Good Food Box Call Center Volunteer

Tasks:
– Make phone calls (from the comfort of your home) to Good Food Box recipients to confirm their registration details and/or delivery dates.
– Record confirmations, updates, and notes in our contact spreadsheets (via Google sheets).

Required abilities and infrastructure:
– Volunteers should have some comfort finding information and recording updates in a spreadsheet (training will be provided on our exact system and processes).
– Attention to detail is key, as is making a judgement about accepting special requests or notifying the program coordinator of urgent situations.
– Volunteers need the ability to manage a phone conversation with potentially high-needs clients and set personal boundaries.
– Access to your own computer, internet, and a phone line (landline or cell phone are okay) are needed.
– Google account for signing into google sheets is preferable, but not necessarily required.
– Willing to maintain client confidentiality and sign a LUSH Valley confidentiality agreement.
– Able to complete other LUSH Valley volunteer documentation including a liability waiver and criminal record check as we are dealing with personal communications with vulnerable individuals and families.

Required time commitment:
– 1-2 hour video conference for a training session.
– Minimum of 2 x 3-hour shifts per week (note the shift is set up as 3 hours, but calls can often be completed in 60 – 90 minutes). The shift times are 12-3 p.m. or 4-7 p.m., Monday – Friday.
– We are asking for at least a one-month commitment due to the time required for training and supporting a volunteer in this role.

Good Food Box Warehouse Volunteers

Tasks:
– Participate in the sorting and assembly of healthy food hampers.
– Assist with sorting recyclable materials.
– Other tasks as assigned.

Required abilities and infrastructure:
– Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds.

Required time commitment:
– Training is ‘on the job’.
– Shifts are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
– Minimum of 2 x 3-hour shifts per week
– We are asking for at least a one-month commitment due to the time required for training and supporting a volunteer in this role.

Good Food Box Driver Volunteers

Tasks:
– Pick up totes with Good Food Box hampers in them and load into a vehicle.
– Contactless delivery to recipients as per a pre-assigned list.
– Report any problems/concerns with deliveries to the program coordinator.
– Other tasks as assigned.

Required abilities and infrastructure:
– Use of your own vehicle plus a valid drivers’ license and insurance.
– Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds.
– Use of a cellular phone.
– Strong navigation skills and ability to use Google maps or other navigation tools
– Drivers will be compensated for fuel use.

Required time commitment:
– 1-hour for a group training session. (Limited to 5 people at a time.)
– Shifts start at 12:30 p.m, for loading totes, and runs until your scheduled deliveries are completed. (Approx. 3:00 p.m. though sometimes as late as 4:00 p.m.)
– We are asking for at least a one-month commitment due to the time required for training and supporting a volunteer in this role.

Hot Meal Program Chef’s Assistant Volunteer

Tasks:
– Assist the chef with the preparation of hot meals. This may include cutting/peeling vegetables, cooking meat, etc.
– Packaging single-serving portions in takeaway containers.
– Contactless transfer to agency representatives who are picking up the hot meals for delivery to their clients.
– Helping with kitchen clean-up and getting ready for the next day.
– Other tasks as assigned.

Required abilities and infrastructure:
– FoodSafe certification is an asset but not required.
– Some experience in a commercial kitchen is an asset.
– Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
– Eagerness to learn and a willingness to follow instructions.

Required time commitment:
– Training is ‘on the job’.
– Shifts are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
– We are asking for at least a one-month commitment of two days per week due to the time required for training and supporting a volunteer in this role.
